Conservation report

From May to July 2010 at the Palazzo Granafei-Nervegna in Brindisi, the Comune hosted an exhibition of a selection of engravings by Giovanni Battista and Francesco Piranesi from the BSR Library’s Rare Book Collection, accompanied by a catalogue, Piranesi: Giovanni Battista e Francesco (Brindisi 2010).

Subsequently the Comune of Brindisi generously funded the restoration of the BSR’s edition of G.B. Piranesi’s Campo Marzio dell’Antica Roma (Roma 1762) by conservator Luigia Antonazzo, who has worked with the BSR since the 1990s. The restored volume was also displayed in the Palazzo Granafei-Nervegna in 2012 and, in collaboration with the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Bari, a series of workshops on engraving techniques was organized for their students.

The BSR Library’s edition of Piranesi’s Campo Marzio dell’Antica Roma and the unbound engravings are part of the Thomas Ashby Collection.
